The decision of whether to purchase a framed fine art print or a canvas wrap is purely personal and depends on your style preferences as well as how the image will be displayed. Factors to consider include the room size, the existing color of the walls and the viewing distance. If you take all of these variables into account you can’t go wrong with either product.
Some differences between the products to be aware of:
The Fine Art Prints
- Are best hung where someone can get close to view them (say 30″)
- Will hold up better over time as they are protected from the environment by the frame and glazing.
- Have sharper resolution due to a smoother printing surface
- Can work with most wall colors as the mat and border gives the image a neutral backdrop
The Canvas Wraps
- Are ideal for hanging further up a wall or behind furniture as their size allows easy viewing from afar (40″+)
- Does not have the same sharpness as the Fine Art Prints due to the texture of the canvas
- Detail is not as important when viewing from a greater distance (and it’s still quite detailed up close)
- The interplay of the ink and canvas is part of what gives the Canvases their charm
- Can have much more impact on a room and would easily become the focal point in the larger sizes
- Are much more dependent on the wall color matching the main colors as there is no border
